Remembering 2020: Spring Porch Project

My last blog entry was in February 2020 which certainly feels like a life-time ago. I have been busy taking photos and spending A LOT of time with my kids. When lock-down began in March, photographers across the country started taking “porch photos” to document families right outside their homes. The trend was hugely popular and many photographers donated some of their proceeds to local charities. I donated to two organizations: MEND (a hunger relief organization here in NJ) and FLAG, a front-line appreciation group in South Orange/Maplewood NJ.

My porch project photos celebrated families being together during the pandemic. I got to document a variety of milestones-from first birthday drive-by’s to first time riding a bike to the new family dog-and it was cathartic for me to witness people experience joy and love during such a challenging, scary time. I hope you enjoy these selects from my porch project. Stay safe.

Walking Down the Aisle in 2019 - A Recap

Weddings make for such wonderful eye-candy.  Beautiful settings, venues and decor.  Wedding parties and guests dressed in their finest.  Add a little love into the mix and there are photo opportunities everywhere you look. Always an honor to capture these amazing, emotional events.

A Year of Mitzvahs. 2019 Recap.

What a fun year. Mitzvahs are such an awesome combination of ceremony and festive celebration. Thank you to all of the families who brought me on to capture their young adults as they enter into a new chapter of life. Mazel tov!

Reflections on 2019 Family Portraits

Each January, I reflect on the past year and simply can't stop smiling.  Here I've captured a selection of my 2019 Family Portrait Sessions.  Some families have been with me for years, and I feel like I've watched their little ones grow up.  While with others, we've just started working together and I've had the joy of getting to know their family's own special spark.

Baby It's Cold Outside...

Winter is cold and long in the Northeast but you have days like today where the ice forms the most beautiful icicles on the trees and you almost forget how much you dislike the cold! Here are some landscape photographs I took today at the South Mountain Reservation. Happy Holidays + stay warm!

The Other Side of the Camera

Even the photographer needs to hire a photographer. Thank you to Jamie Meier for swapping a shoot day so we could each get our headshots done. I prefer being behind the camera, but sharing an afternoon with a colleague and friend made it quite fun. Thanks for bringing out my smile! Here are some of my favorites from our session in Maplewood Village, NJ.

September Wedding in Long Island

Winnie and Sloan had a magical early September day for their Quogue, Long Island Wedding. Their adorable poodle, Maverick, didn’t attend the wedding but his presence in the portraits was a true highlight. After a ceremony at a local church, guests headed to the Quogue Field Club for cocktails outside and non-stop dancing in the dining room. Congrats to the newlyweds!

Pretty in Pink

Here’s a recap of some of my family portrait sessions this Spring. I love the clothing coordination with the spring trees. My new location discovery was the Cherry Blossom Festival at Branch Brook Park in Newark. Amazing spot for visiting and for photos!

Vibrant Spring Bat Mitzvah

Captured here is a beautiful and vibrant spring celebration at “The Little Club” in Maplewood, NJ. Decorations by LH Event Design. Mazel tov to the family!

A Look Back at 2018 Weddings

Happy New Year! I always love to take some time in January to reflect on the past year. My sincere thanks to all of the couples who welcomed me to be a part of their weddings. It was an honor. Wishing you a great first year as newlyweds!

Fall Wedding Inspiration for the Newly Engaged

Time to pop the question?  For many, that will be the most memorable part of this holiday season...  December is the most popular month for engagements with about 40 percent of engagements occurring between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day, according to Wedding Wire.  Want a few more stats?  Top 10 Most Popular Days to Get Married.

Wishing all some luck this season, and for those who say yes, some fall wedding inspiration.

Happy Holidays!

It's that time of year: Fall family photos!

Fall is a classic time of year for family portrait sessions. It makes sense, as everyone is back into a routine and holiday cards are just around the corner. What I truly love about fall portraits are the colors, the crisp air, the cozy sweaters, and the smiles. Enjoy your fall. Play in the leaves. Make memories. If you'd like to schedule a portrait session, please fill out the contact page on my website.

First Birthday Portrait + Party

First birthdays are a milestone for the parents as much as the babies - it's a true accomplishment. Sleep gets better, communication emerges, and first steps are taken. I recently took these first year birthday photos at the family's apartment and roof deck in NYC.  All the details were filled with love including a homemade hot air balloon. The happiest of birthdays to Miles!

Bring on the Sunshine: Beach Weddings

All of the senses are engaged at beach weddings.  The water laps, the air is crisp, the sand touches your feet, and of course, the views are all-encompassing.  A few of my favorite shots at beach weddings over the years.

"Martha's Flowers"

I can't believe it's taken more so long to share this, but my photography has been included in Martha Stewart's recent book: Martha's Flowers!  It's a gorgeous guide to gathering, growing and enjoying flowers.  My photos are from a shoot over a few days at Martha's house in Bedford, NY.  Check it out and a quick sneak peek at my pages.
